Edward left Bella, broken and alone, in the forest next to her fathers house. As the months went by, Charlie did his best to take care of Bella and nurture her wounds.
But when she goes down to La Push and starts hanging out with Jacob Black something changed. She started falling for him and her wounded heart begins to heal.
As she spent more and more time with him, she started to get over Edward. He confessed that he loved Bella, and Bella told him that he loves her. She starts to go out with him, and they eventually get married.
